This speech was given before the Australian government shelved the ISP Filtering plan before the election. I used to this he was a bit of a jerk, however as least his views on this matter I think are right on.
Telstra have released the cost of their iPad data plans and they are the cheapest of any mobile data plans that Telstra has to offer with the starting plan of 1gb at only $20, 3gb at $30 and 6gb for $60. The other good news is that these are all pre pay plans so there is no lock in contracts. But making the plans pre-pay only is likely a requirement from Apple due to the 3G top up purchase interface on the device.
The lower prices may be as a result of the micro-sim that is required for the iPad making them essentially exclusive plans for the device.
It is yet to be seen if the other Australian wireless carriers will have similar plans or even if any of them will have an plan similar to AT&T’s Unlimited Data plan in the USA.
